Bangladesh have named a 16-man squad for their upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka — and it comes with some exciting returns. Left-handed opener Mohammad Naim is back in the national fold after more than two years away, while pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed has recovered from injury to rejoin the lineup.

Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain revealed the squad during a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Monday.

The three-match series is set to kick off on 2 July in Colombo, right after the ongoing Test series wraps up. Newly appointed ODI skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the side in 50-over cricket for the first time.

Naim, 25, earns his spot thanks to a stellar showing in the Dhaka Premier League, where he piled up 618 runs in 11 matches, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer. He comes in as a replacement for Soumya Sarkar, who remains sidelined with a lingering back issue.

Taskin Ahmed’s return is a major boost to Bangladesh’s pace department. The right-arm quick had been out of action due to fitness concerns but has now resumed full training.

The second Test match in the ongoing series begins on 25 June, also in Colombo.
